Small, sharp tools for
people who write for a living.
I'm Andy. I build focused desktop apps that take the friction out of one thing: getting the words out of your head and onto the screen. One app at a time, built in the open — including the parts that don't work.
One email a month. New tools, and what I learn building them. No spam, unsubscribe anytime.
What I'm building
Right now: nothing you can buy. Here's where that stands.
The first tool
Not chosen yet — and that's deliberate.
- I shipped a dictation app in 2026 and retired it: the category filled up with free tools faster than I could finish
- So I'm doing it the other way round this time — finding the problem first, in the places people complain about it
- Nothing gets built until someone has paid for it up front
What it'll have in common
Whatever it turns out to be.
- A native desktop app, Mac and Windows, not another browser tab
- Built for people whose day is producing text
- Sold honestly — no dark patterns, no engagement tricks
Who I build for
If your work is mostly producing text — writing, coding, drafting messages, turning thoughts into documents — you spend all day at the keyboard, and the small frictions add up. Reaching for another tab. Fighting your own typos. Saying it three times before it sounds right. That gap, between what you mean and what ends up on the screen, is the only thing I build to close.
- Native desktop. Real apps that live where you work, not another browser tab.
- One job, done well. Each tool does one thing sharply instead of ten things vaguely.
- Made by one person. You can email me and a human answers.
- Built in the open. The newsletter follows the work as it happens.
Built in public, by one person
BadgerBuilds is a one-person UK studio. No growth team, no roadmap theatre — just a builder shipping small, honest tools and writing about how they're made. If that's your kind of thing, the newsletter is the best seat.
